Perugia is a city of arts, one of the most beautiful and important of Italy. Mighty Etruscan center and important mediaeval city after that, Perugia guards lovingly precious traces of its luminous historical periods. The city is today the administrative and cultural capital of the Umbria Region, a major tourist and cultural destination, site of the University for over 700 years. The historical Academy of Fine Arts, the Music Conservatorium, and its University for Foreigners, with students coming from all over the world, define furthermore the marked international vocation. The Università degli Studi di Perugia (UNIPG), founded in 1308, is one of the oldest universities in Italy and one of the most accredited, offering a wide variety of courses in all fields of education. It is part of the National Interuniversity Consortium for Nanoelectronics (IU.NET) which is active in the field of Electronic Technologies and, in particular, physics, modeling, characterization, design and reliability of micro- and nano-electronic components for digital and analog applications, optoelectronic and power devices, sensors and biosensors, renewable energy production facilities, energy harvesting and energy storage.
The Noise in Physical Systems research group (NiPS Lab) at Department of Physics and Geology of University of Perugia is one of the most internationally recognized research groups in the field of Stochastic Physics, Energy Harvesting, Physics of Information Technology and 2D materials for ultra-low power applications. In 2009, the director of the NiPS group prof. Gammaitoni with Cottone and Vocca proposed for the first time the exploitation of nonlinear dynamical systems for highly efficient vibration energy harvesting with a publication (http://link.aps.org/doi/10.1103/PhysRevLett.102.080601) that achieved more than 1300 citations.
Umbria Jazz Festival
The Umbria Jazz Festival is a renowned annual music event held in Perugia. Established in 1973, it has evolved into one of the premier jazz festivals in Europe, attracting both seasoned jazz enthusiasts and casual music lovers alike. The festival offers a diverse lineup of performances spanning various jazz sub-genres, including traditional, contemporary, fusion, and experimental.
